Spiritual Tattoo
A “Spiritual” or “Intentional” tattoo would be the most general category of Sacred Marks, and would include any design that bears a spiritual meaning for the wearer. This could include memorial tattoos (as an aspect of Ancestor worship), general symbol or sigil designs, or any design celebrating or commemorating a spiritual expierience or belief. During a consultation appointment for this type of tattoo experience, the artist will go over design details, including inspiration, placement and size, but will also include a discussion about the intention, spiritual practice, or meaning of the design. The more the artist understands the story behind the design choice, the more they will be able to cater the design to the needs of both the wearer and the meaning or intention. This tattoo experience can also include prayer at the request of the client.
Channeled Tattoo
A Channeled Tattoo experience involved the practitioner creating some or all of the tattoo design through intuitively channelling, using divinatory tools, meditation, and other practices. The client can start with a particular subject or design concept and allow the artist to flesh out he design through this channeling work, or you can give full control to the Spirits and ask the practitioner to channel the entire design. Generally this experience will involve a very in depth conversation about the goals of the design, placement, intentions, spiritual practice and life experiences of the client. After this conversation, the artist will meditate n the design ideas and/or perform the required practices, which may include pulling runes, throwing bones, drawing tarot or oracle cards, dowsing and more. This may be done with the client present or may be done in solitude. Once the artist has created the design, they will share the results of their channeling, discussing various elements of the design, their meaning and energetics and how different elements relate to the overall intention of the tattoo. This tattoo experience can also include prayer and ritual elements at the request of the client.
Devotional Tattoos
A Devotional Tattoo Experience relates directly to an individuals spiritual path and may involve the client desiring to mark a milestone, or commitment to a spiritual practice, deity, or particular religious path. A design would be created based on the client’s relationship to the diety, the milestone they are celebrating or the path they have stepped onto. This could be a channeled design and can include prayer or ritual elements at the request of the client.
Ritual or Ceremonial Tattoos
This is by far the most involved type of tattoo experience. In this situation, the client will receive their mark in a private ritual, created specifically for that individual, based on their intention for the design, their spiritual needs or practice. This will involve a long and in depth conversation about these subjects, as well as design elements, whether the client would like others to be present for or participate in the ritual, and much more. Meditative and other channelling practices may be used by the artist for both the creation of the design or the ritual.
